Initial Consultation:
This is where we begin the process of creating a room you will love to live in. I do charge for our initial consultation depending on what it is that you tell me is involved before I arrive at your home. At the consultation we get to know each other and discuss the design process, explore options and responsibilities for both designer and client. I prefer not to do consultation only for those that want to continue on their own, as consultation is only the beginning of a successful design project. We have always maintained very high standards for the quality of any materials we specify and the details of workmanship we expect from our sub-contractors. We inspect what we expect as the project progresses! My best clients are open-minded and willing to work together at every step of the project. This can only result in a satisfied client and a result that others will compliment.
Design Fee and Contract:
To begin any project, large or small both designer and client need to sign a Letter of Agreement. This contract specifies what each of us is responsible for, how we will work together and the work to be done. Depending on what is agreed to be provided by me, the designer, you, the client, will need to agree to the design fee. This is a standard in our profession as designers provide a professional design service based upon years of study and experience . The principles of good design are adhered to and are the basis of our work. I have always felt that if a jury of my peers, other professional designers, inspected my work, they would have nothing but compliments! A tiny room that I designed at the Junior League of Boston 1997 Decorators Showhouse at One Arlington Street in Boston received rave reviews from both the media and my peers. I can only be successful if both of us are completely satisfied with the work you have contracted to be accomplished.
Draperies/ Fabrics:
Our custom draperies and soft window fashions last for years! We help you select the perfect textiles, trimmings and designs for your windows that will last for the long term and cost less over time than those changed frequently. We oversee their construction in the workrooms and specify luxurious insulated linings. Beautiful drapery hardware is the finishing touch and installed by our professional window treatment installers. We have been called upon for years to collaborate with other professional designers to specify and oversee the fabrication and installation of custom draperies and window fashions for their clients. The unique designs we create for you will never be repeated for other clients.
Furniture:
Our Custom upholstered furniture will feel just the way you feel most comfortable. We insist you sit on several different comfortable sofas to see what comfort level you love! We can even specify cushion construction on a sofa to have different comfort levels on each side so if she likes it soft and he likes it firm it is possible! Can’t find a sofa in a fabric you love? We can find the fabric for you and take care of ordering any upholstered furniture!
Can’t find a dining room table or chairs or the right accent table that you love? We have the resources and craftsmen to create custom pieces for you! We have the resources of the many showrooms at the Boston Design Center and can visit them with you to find the perfect furniture for your home. Antique or period furnishings which can create a focal point or conversation piece in your room are available through our many resources.
Redesign for your Upholstered Cherished Heirlooms:
Your old upholstered furniture can be updated with a fresh fabric. The frame can be resized, padded differently, skirt design changed or eliminated, resulting in a totally new piece on your well made furniture frame. Our upholsterer will strip the old materials from your piece down to the frame and rebuild it to our specifications and your comfort level. Your furniture will look and feel new again.
Tile /Granite/ Marble/ Stone for Kitchens, Baths, and Floors :
We love to work with your architect or builder to find the perfect materials for your walls, floors and counters, those permanent installations that will compliment your design style and concept. What I do is to narrow the choices for you and take away the confusion since there are too many products on the market from which to choose. I can create a tile and materials color board for your builder which will specify where the various materials should be installed.
Carpet / Area Rugs:
Floor coverings take a lot of wear and tear from everyday living. Your special needs for children, family members and pets reflect the quality and style we specify. There are endless choices, designs, materials, and levels of quality. We can provide appropriate samples and will not stop until you find a floor covering you will love and that will compliment the design concept of your room. We can design and specify custom carpets and area rugs.
Blinds / Shades / Shutters :

There are motorization systems that interface with today's smart home technology, hard wired /pre-construction or battery operated remote control. Lamps/Lighting:
Our resources include a wide variety of lighting vendors so that we can find the perfect light fixture or lamp to make a statement in your room or to just provide the necessary lighting to spotlight a piece of art or fireplace wall . We work with lighting designers who can collaborate where light fixtures should be located and what amount of light is needed.
If you have a wonderful lamp but the lamp shade is dated or it needs to be rewired, we can find the perfect shade to compliment both the lamp and the location where it will be placed and provide new wiring in a color to hide in your room.
We can design custom lamps from a wide variety of materials and shades.
Art and Accessories are personal and are either the inspiration for your room or the finishing touch. If you have a collection of something you love or a very special piece of art, we can design your room around it. Pillows to add comfort and style to your furniture or bed can be fabricated in our workroom. We love down and feather stuffers as they last for years unless there is an allergy to these materials.
